Abayas are one of the most popular women's clothing in the Arab countries, and currently they have entered international fashion with new designs. The origin of the abaya goes back to four thousand years ago, specifically in the civilization of Mesopotamia, which is Iraq.
In the past, it was restricted to rich women only, while poor women could not wear the abaya because they were unable to buy it. Nowadays, most women and women wear the abaya because it is available to all classes of society.
The basic and official dress in some Arab countries in general and the Gulf in particular, is the Arab.
Types of abayas
We can distinguish two types of abayas according to the way they are designed and the areas of their spread
1- Arab abayas :
It is suitable for the shape of the Arab Muslim woman to cover what she wears from the normal clothes. It is a piece of fabric that consists of a long-sleeved robe that covers all parts of the body except for the face, hands and feet. It is characterized by covering and modesty and having colors such as black, gray or white, characterized by being modest and covering the entire body of the woman and being loose It does not describe and does not reveal the body and is not thin. It is made of excellent materials such as: lace and silk.
2- Foreign abayas :
It differs from the Arab abayas in that it is designed without sleeves or open on the sides, narrow and thin, transparent describing the body, and contains stark colors with some strange drawings and is used to design special types of fabrics such as satin and chiffon, and these gowns are worn by international models and actresses.
